Success Stories
Attain Productions has a successful track record of designing, delivering and managing high quality projects.
Barnet Mencap project
Stacey Williams, Director of Attain Productions, first started working with Barnet Mencap in 2014. Working with local SEN young people a short film was created for the Cut Films competition. The final film 'One Way Ticket' won the 20-25 age category for the Barnet Cut Films National Cut Films Awards in 2014. The project was evaluated by independent evaluators who interviewed both service users, volunteers and Mencap staff.
Mencap Volunteer described the project:
'Stacey was fantastic - she guided us through the project how to do some filming to walked us through it, we did a storyboard/whiteboards. It was a really good guide to helping us do the scenes, it was great kinaesthetic learning. The filming was so ‘hands on’ - which was fantastic. If it wasn't hands on it would be pointless. They learned to use a Canon camera which had a big lens and developed their camera skills
using that. These included an understanding of the different camera shots and angles; close ups, mid shots and long shots all of which featured in the finished film. We took the shots and Stacey showed us the rushes and we discussed what shots we should use. The participants made a lot of these decisions.
The kinaesthetic learning, apart from Stacey, that was the driving force -that's what drove the project. As the project moved on they felt more confident - you could see it happening in the space of a week.
At the time we were not thinking about a competition-it wasn't the important things. We never thought it would reach as far as it reached. Taking a step back I could see the guys and Stacey were enthused and as each day went by they became more enthused. They were working as part of team taking good ideas forward as a team and getting rid of others.
“I remember coming in to see the rough cut and was so impressed - I was blown away. It had just been happening all week and to come in and see what had been achieved was fantastic.”

Erasmus+ Smokefree Youth Network
In 2016, Stacey Williams of Attain Productions, designed, led, managed and delivered an international EU Smokefree Youth Network project. This project was composed of two parts: part 1 was a Youth Exchange in London where young people took part in demonstrations against British American Tobacco, presented to young people from around the country, interviewed MPs, created short films gaining filmmaking skills (storyboarding, scripting, camera, editing) and photography skills. Part 2 took place in Slovenia where young people furthered their filmmaking skills while gaining skills in debating and presenting. The project was done in collaboration with Smart Youth in Sweden and No Excuse in Slovenia.
The project incorporated baseline assessments and exit evaluations as well as recorded interviews. The project sought to deglamorize smoking and challenge young people’s perceptions that smoking is ‘cool’ through games about celebrity smokers (challenging who is a smoker), addressing smoking in media and exploring the dark side of tobacco production (child labour). 23 out of 24 participants stated that they had learned something new about the tobacco industry.
Participants in the project developed technical skills that will help them pursue careers in media/social media/campaigning. The participants also gained skills in presenting and confidence in public speaking.
"The youth exchange was one of the best things I’ve ever done. I got to make a lot of new friends and learn a lot of skills. The staff on the project were really encouraging and supportive, Stacey, who managed the project always made sure that everyone felt comfortable and made sure that the experience was enjoyable."
- Julia, project participant
“Taking part in the youth exchange really influenced me. Originally I got involved in Cut Films through Stacey's workshops at my college and now I'm working for Cut Films delivering my own workshops!"
