HPV Vaccine Aware is a film competition and workshops sponsored by East London Health & Care Partnership, which will be delivered over the East London boroughs between April - November 2019 aiming to:
Educate young people about all relevant aspects of the HPV vaccine
Influence young people’s perceptions and attitudes towards the HPV vaccine
Contribute to an increase in young people’s uptake of the vaccine.
Around 13 types of HPV can cause cancer, which are termed as ‘high-risk’ types and those people who infect this type are most likely to go on to develop cancer. The HPV vaccine works by protecting against an HPV infection, preventing the changes in our cells thereby reducing the risk of cancer. See below for more information on HPV and the vaccine.
The competition has two categories:
1. HPV Vaccine for girls: the film should promote the HPV Vaccine amongst girls, raising awareness of what HPV is and how the vaccine protects girls
2. HPV Vaccine for boys: the vaccine will soon be available to boys and these films should highlight this information, raising awareness of HPV and how the vaccine protects boys
